The Things We Hold In Our Hands - Start Here!
Find out more about our new participatory project, including how to take part
The Things We Hold In Our Hands is a new participatory project organised by The Everyday School of Art and AccessArt.
We hope the project will act as a mechanism to help inspire you to make, to encourage you to bravely share what you make with others, and to enable you to receive a gift of an artwork made by another person in return. This participatory project is open to everyone - whatever your skills or experience - please join us!

How the Project works…
Step 1. Make an Object
Make an artwork which fits into your hand. Read more about what your artwork might be here.
Step 2. Attach a Message
Think about if you want to add any message, to go alongside the object? Perhaps a few words about what you were thinking as you made the object, or the context in which it was made, or what you think about it now it exists in the world. Or perhaps would you rather just let the object speak for itself…
Step 3. Send the Artwork
Email us at paula@accessart.org.uk to receive a submission form by return. Post the artwork to us, together with the completed submission form. Please note you can choose to remain anonymous, or you can include your name or Instagram account. There is no fee to submit the work. The artwork will be in safe hands. Once received we will catalogue the artwork, and photograph it, and we will share on The Everyday School of Art on Substack, and on Instagram.
Step 4. We’ll Share the Artwork
We’ll post your artwork to another participant, together with any written message you provided, for them to receive as a gift.
Step 5. You’ll Receive an Artwork
You’ll receive an artwork in return* - this is your gift to keep. Pls take your time to reflect upon the artwork received. Hold it in your hand. Read the message if there is one. Keep safe and enjoy :)
Step 6: Share Your Thoughts
Send us a photo of the artwork in your hand, and if you’d like, feedback your thoughts about the object, which we’ll share via The Everyday School of Art on Substack and TheThingsWeHoldInOur Hands on Instagram
*Please note that due to postage costs we can only send artwork to UK addresses.
